Moza sells two entry direct drive bundles that look almost identical on the product page: the R3 at 3.9 Nm and the R5 at 5.5 Nm. The price gap is small enough that the choice genuinely confuses people. It should not, because the two bundles answer different questions: the R5 asks “how much torque do you need on PC” while the R3 asks “do you own an Xbox.”

The torque difference

Moza R5 direct drive wheelbase

On paper, 5.5 versus 3.9 Nm is a 40 percent gap. In the hands it is the difference between “strong enough” and “I never think about strength.” The R3 has to run near its ceiling to feel weighty, which flattens fine detail; the R5 delivers the same sensations at two-thirds effort, leaving headroom for heavier cars and stronger settings.

That said, 3.9 Nm is not weak. Both bases are true direct drive with the same motor family, the same quick release and the same Pit House software. Coming from a gear or belt wheel, the R3 still feels like a different sport. The R5 simply feels like more of it.

Platform support decides for many buyers

Moza R3 bundle for Xbox and PC

The R3 is officially licensed for Xbox: plug it into a Series X or S and Forza works natively, no adapters or workarounds. The R5 is PC only and always will be at this hardware revision. Neither base supports PlayStation; PS5 buyers should look at our PS5 wheel guide instead.

For PC-only racers this section is irrelevant. For anyone with an Xbox in the house, it is the entire comparison.

Pedals and the bundle contents

Both bundles ship with the same SR-P Lite two-pedal set, the honest weak point of each package. The pedals work and the brake is tunable, but there is no load cell and no clutch. Either base pairs happily with the Moza CRP2 or SR-P load cell pedals later, and that upgrade is worth planning for from day one.

The R3 bundle does include one extra: a table clamp in the box, where R5 buyers pay separately for mounting hardware or bolt straight to a rig.

Upgrade paths

Both bases sit at the bottom of the same ecosystem. Moza wheels, pedals, shifters and dashes all work across the range, so money spent on a Moza HGP shifter or better pedals carries forward to an R9 or R12 upgrade. The R5’s extra torque simply delays the day you want a bigger base.

Who should buy which

Buy the R5 if: you race on PC, you want torque headroom, or you suspect you will get serious. It is the default pick and the one fewer people regret.

Buy the R3 if: an Xbox is involved, the budget is genuinely tight, or the setup must live on a desk. The included clamp makes it the friendlier desk option, and 3.9 Nm is easier to manage on a table anyway.

Alternatives to consider

Fanatec CSL DD wheelbase

The Fanatec CSL DD (5 Nm, 8 with the Boost Kit) is the R5’s natural rival on PC, and the Fanatec ecosystem runs deeper. It costs more once wheel and pedals join the cart.

Logitech G923 wheel and pedals

The Logitech G923 is the console-safe fallback: gear-driven and weaker, but licensed for both PlayStation and Xbox with three pedals included.

Thrustmaster T300 RS GT

The Thrustmaster T300 RS GT splits the difference for PS5 owners: smooth belt drive, three pedals, real force feedback, and often priced near the R3.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Moza R3 strong enough?

For most drivers, yes. 3.9 Nm delivers clear force feedback with real weight, and beginners often run it below maximum anyway. The R5 is better, not necessary.

Does the R5 work on Xbox or PS5?

No. The R5 is PC only. For Xbox you need the R3; for PS5, the Moza range does not apply at all.

Can I upgrade the pedals later?

Yes. Both bases work with the full Moza pedal range over USB, and the SR-P Lite pedals resell easily if you move to CRP2 or SR-P load cell units.

Recommendation

PC racers should buy the Moza R5 Bundle; the torque headroom is worth the modest premium and it is the bundle fewer people outgrow. Xbox owners have one real choice and it is a good one: the Moza R3 Bundle brings direct drive to the console at a price nothing licensed can match. Whichever you choose, put the savings toward a Moza CRP2 pedal set sooner rather than later.
